NESPAK Earthquake Reconstruction Division
On Saturday, the 8th October, 2005, at 08:52 local time (03:52 GMT), at about 100 km north – north east of Islamabad, a massive earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale—the most devastating to hit the region in a century—destroyed towns and villages in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP). Relief activities for the affected persons/areas started immediately by the Government of Pakistan and the nation united their hands to help their brothers and sisters in the times of this great disaster.

As a next step towards restoring the shattered lives of the affected the Government of Pakistan took the decision of rehabilitating and reconstructing shelters for the communities. Consequently, Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) was created by the Government of Pakistan and assigned ERRA as an executing agency for this disaster recovery in coordination among the government line agencies, donors, local government and NGOs. To look after city planning, architectural, engineering and other technical matters, ERRA appointed NESPAK as General Consultant under contract agreement between ERRA and NESPAK on 26th April, 2006 for the reconstruction and rehabilitation process to oversee and plan the activities required.

NESPAK being General Consultant to ERRA is involved in Post October 2005 Earthquake Reconstruction effort covering Housing, Health, Education, Governance, Livestock, Forestry, Agriculture, WATSAN and Planning Sectors. NESPAK readily established its dedicated Division "Earthquake Reconstruction Division" to take up this gigantic assignment. NESPAK also introduced Alternative Technologies such as Structural Concrete Insulated Panels (SCIP / 3D Panels) and Light Gauge Cold Formed Pre-Engineered Galvanized Steel Structures.
